nick on bbc local tv tonight??!!

hi all

nick may be appearing on bbc's look north (east yorkshire and humberside version) tonight at 5.30pm. part of his set at moonbeams wold top festival yesterday was filmed by the beeb and nick was also interviewed on camera. nick may not have made the cut, and even if he has it may a case of 'blink and you miss him' but it's worth tuning in to get a feel of the atmosphere at this excellent boutique festival.

if nick makes the cut we'll post a link to the 'watch again' site asap.

a busy month ahead...

from nick's myspace page earlier today;

"Hi folks

Very busy month coming up! On the 6th June I have a very special, high-pressure gig... I'm getting married! Then literally hours after we land back in Blighty after our honeymoon Michelle and I are peforming in the TCT Sessions marquee at Beverley Folk Festival (Saturday 20th June) in the afternoon, followed by 2 Hall Brothers gigs elsewhere around the festival site that evening. I'm sure Michelle will be joining us on these gigs.
Then the following afternoon (21st) Hall Bros will be playing the TCT marquee in the afternoon.
Later in the month (28th June) Michelle and I will be playing a duo gig outdoors at Ye Olde Punchbowl, Marton-cum-Grafton near York - Neil Morrissey's pub no less!

Many thanks for all your support over the first half of this year - we've had some great gigs thanks to you!

Love and best wishes

Nick x"

Sad news

We were very sad to hear about the death of Gordon Thackray recently. We've known and been very fond of Gordon for many many years (since the very start of the band) and the scene won't be the same without him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his family.

from nick's facebook page tonight...

"hi y'all... just been up in the wilds beyond York rehearsing with Michelle and Charlie for the Accidental Tourists gig this Friday. I feel like we're revving up for an onslaught of gigs, and the diary is filling up all the time! Dunc, Michelle and I have been doing some recording on the 'home' digital gear - I've finally turned 'What People Do' into the rock song it has always deserved to be! I've just written a new song that I really like (and Michelle likes it so it must be good!) called 'Know Your Enemy'. I'm going to start recording it tomorrow - a big rocker that manages to be sensitive and thuggish at the same time; like giving someone a big hug then punching them in the mouth! Look out for it at the gigs"

saturday's gigs

from nick's myspace this afternoon;
"hi all
three gigs coming up this saturday 7th march...
queensbury festival local heroes stage 1.05pm (duo set with michelle plum)
queensbury festival local heroes stage 3.30pm (hall brothers & john carey)
otley rugby club charity concert (eve) (hall brothers acoustic band - with michelle plum, john carey and nic shipp)
the local heroes stage is in the conservative club [sorry :-(] in queensbury, outside bradford. it's a great little festival with a good line-up all day and evening.
the otley gig is a charity event raising money for a worthy cause, and ace songwriter dave vermond and great rock band the restless natives are also on the bill.
it would be great to see you at all or any of these gigs :-)

from nick's myspace blog - undertow review

this from nick's myspace blog - amazing review of the 'undertow' ep discovered online;

"hi, just found this review of my ep 'undertow' by accident. It brought a lump to my throat and is the sort of thing that makes it all worth while :-) don't know who wrote this, but thank you so much!
'Original and compelling.... ........................................What a wonderful discovery! Nick Hall's voice is full of emotion and texture, and unlike anyone else on today's music scene. This is music unadulterated by the "music industry," and those looking for something unique and refreshing will be heartened that there are still artists producing music on their own terms. Those looking for comparisons will hear a touch of Nick Drake, Elliot Smith, and Ryan Adams. Thankfully, however, Nick Hall avoids the formulaic darkness that permeates efforts by other artists inspired by these three musical icons. "Undertow" in particular deserves to be heard (and appreciated) by as wide an audience as possible.'

wow! x"
